Notre Histoire

Ninety years of excellence

1934The founding

Maison Noire is born

Auguste Beaumont opens a small atelier on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, Paris. Working with just twelve ingredients, he creates the first Noire fragrance in a converted wine cellar. The world does not yet know what is coming.

1951The breakthrough

Oud Noir debuts at Paris Fashion Week

Auguste's son, Édouard Beaumont, presents the now-legendary Oud Noir at Paris Fashion Week. Coco Chanel is among the first to wear it. Within a week, every bottle is sold. The waiting list stretches to six months.

1979The expansion

First international boutique opens in London

After decades of exclusively Parisian distribution, Maison Noire opens its first international boutique on Bond Street, London. The queue stretches around the block on opening day. The New York Times calls it "the most anticipated opening of the decade."

1998The new generation

Élise Beaumont takes creative direction

At just 28, Élise Beaumont — great-granddaughter of the founder — becomes the youngest Master Perfumer in France. Her first creation, Rose de Mai, wins the Prix du Parfum at Cannes. She introduces the single-origin sourcing policy still in use today.

2024Today

The Collection expands to twelve fragrances

For the 90th anniversary, Maison Noire launches six new fragrances — including Jasmin Absolu, Santal Noir, and the acclaimed Rose Oud. The collection is now available in 34 boutiques worldwide. The obsession continues.
